Dear Chic Shoppers: Petite Problems?

Dear Chic Shoppers,

I am 5 foot, 125 pounds. A little "stocky" in my opinion, but petite nonetheless. I really like the look of skinny jeans with boots over them but certain people have told me that short girls should avoid that look. I am curious what your thoughts are? And any tips you may have to wear it the best.

Also, if skinny jeans are for me, I am looking for a good pair that don't sit too low on my waist. By no means do I want Mom Jeans, just something that I don't feel like my A$$ will be hanging out it. After all, I am not 16 anymore.

Thanks,

Chrissy

Hi Chrissy!

Thanks for your question! Take heart, petite one! Summer just went to LA and practically every celeb there was under 5' 2"--and lots of them were wearing skinny jeans. If the celebs can do it, so can you.

Some pointers:

The key is to go with super dark wash jeans and dark boots (chocolate brown or black) to elongate your legs. That way the boots and jeans will look almost seamless. Make sure the boots have heels to give you height and are fairly streamlined, such as #4 and #6, both from Endless.com. We found some mid-rise petite dark wash jeans at Old Navy (seen below, #2) and a lower-rise version from Gap (#8), if you're feeling more daring.

If you're hippy (and not in the "peace out" sense), find some dark tops that do NOT hit at your widest spot. You'll want them to fall just below your waist. We think that dark, again, will be most flattering. It'll achieve that monochromatic look that will give you height. Another point for the tops is to find ones that have embellishment at the top (#1, #5, #9), which will draw your eye up to your beautiful face. Diagonal stripes will also create a waistline (#7) and give you shape. (All tops are from Forever 21.)

The most important thing, of course, is to find stuff you feel confident in! If you feel good, you'll look good. And we think you'll feel great in some of these:

Keep us posted! And have fun shopping!

Monogrammed Must-Haves

Ever heard the expression,
"If you love it so much, why don't you marry it?"

Well, that's how much we're loving these monogram initial necklaces.
In fact, Summer loves it so much, she's having a tattoo designed similar to it...
{with her kids initials}
To have and to hold forever and ever.

{seen on celebs of all kinds}

While the Jennifer Zeuner necklace option (above) may be a bit out of your price range (starting at $175 for the medium size), we did find a couple on our beloved Etsy for just a fraction of the price.

And stay tuned, next month you may just get a glimpse at Summer's more permanent option.

Dear Chic Shoppers: Tunic Time

Dear Chic Shoppers,

Yes, i am over a certain age, but I will confess that I ADORE the look of leggings under long tunics, or a flirty dress. HOWEVER, I remember from the last time this trend was in (yes, I am dating myself), and I had a horrible time with the tunic or dress clinging to the leggings and bunching up between my legs. It was really unsightly and embarrassing and totally ruined the look for me.
Is there a secret to making this look work??

Thanks,
Unchic Chica

~~~~~~~
Dear Unchic Chica,
We seriously doubt that you are "unchic," since you're asking about one of our favorite trends! We choose to reserve the word "unchic" for things like mom jeans.
But yes, there are definitely some things you can do to avoid that pesky bunching up problem!
Some thoughts:
It's all in the draping. This can be achieved either through style or fabric choice.
Baby doll tops, for example, or empire waisted tops, which are both more fitted near the top and then hang away from the body will help. Another key is finding a fabric that's heavy enough to provide weight that will pull away from the body, or trying a totally different fabric than cotton, such as silk. A thin cotton top on cotton leggings is guaranteed to bunch.
To help you in your quest, we've found a few tops we think might work.
See what you think!
We hope we were able to help, and as always....have a fashion question?
Chic Shoppers are here to help!
